Partial application of nitrogen fertilizers is common. This results in low levels of available phosphorus in the soil. This is related to the poor quality of the existing fruits in citrus production. Studies have shown that phosphorus has the greatest impact on the quality of citrus fruits. Phosphate fertilizer applied to the leaves during fruit enlargement can improve fruit ripening.
